Lil Kim Signs With Universal Music

Universal Music has signed Lil Kim, a former rap prodigy, to their record label. This is the first deal Kim has struck since parting from Atlantic Records in 2008. Although no formal statements have been made in relation to this new addition, Lil Kim’s name officially appears on the list of artists on the label’s website.

Kim released four albums with Atlantic Records from year 1996. Her classic debut, Hard Core, was certified double platinum by 2001. In 2001, Lil Kim also sang in a remake of Lady Marmalade alongside sensations Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Mya for the film soundtrack of Moulin Rouge. The single remained #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks and landed Kim her first Grammy award.

Lil Kim’s other albums include The Notorious K.I.M., La Bella Mafia, The Naked Truth. These albums solidified her placement in the hip hop industry as a highly talented female rapper.

Despite her many achievements, Lil Kim failed to meet the commercial successes of Missy Elliot and Lauryn Hill. She was also involved in disputes against Nicki Minaj, and recorded a mixtape called Black Friday dissing Minaj’s recent album. However, rappers Kim and Nicki might settle their differences as they both currently work under the same label.

Lil Kim is currently working hard on her comeback with Universal Music on a new album which includes a soon to be released single called Looks like Money.

Wiz Khalifa Arrested For Drug Possession – [VIDEO]

Posted: Tuesday – November 9, 2010

Wiz Khalifa was arrested in Greenville, North Carolina Monday night (November 8). The Pittsburgh-based rapper had just finished performing at East Carolina University and was detained after police searched his tour bus and found narcotics and other drug-related items.

He was charged with a felony count of trafficking in marijuana, a felony count of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/place for sale or storage of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, which is a misdemeanor. Nine others in his entourage were also arrested and according to reports, are still in police custody. The MC was released Tuesday morning though after posting $300,000 bail said a spokesperson for the Pitts County Detention Center to MTV News.

Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, is known for his love of weed. He once boasted during an interview that the drug habit cost him about $10,000 a month and in October he launched his own brand of rolling papers.

So far no one from Wiz’s camp or Atlantic Records, which recently signed him to a multi-album deal, has responded to the incident and nor has ECU. But fellow rapper Curren$y has released a video that seemingly shows the police searching Khalifa’s tour bus and arresting him and several others.

Cee Lo Inks New Management Deal To Prepare For ‘The Lady Killer’

Posted: Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Cee Lo Green has inked a new management deal to prepare for the release of his highly anticipated upcoming album The Lady Killer, which has already spawned the #1 hit single “Fuck You.”

The Atlanta rapper has inked a deal with New York City-based Family Tree/Primary Wave Talent Management that will see veteran manager Michael “Blue” Williams take charge of Cee Lo’s career.

Williams has handled the careers of a variety of stars, including Outkast, Monica, Macy Gray, Donnell Jones and others.

“Finally a firm with foresight! Fearless and focused, fighting on the front lines for the fundamentals of franchise. In short – I like these guys!” Cee Lo said.

The announcement comes as Cee Lo adjusts to the massive success of “Fuck You,” which has garnered over 13 million plays on YouTube in less then a month, forcing Cee Lo’s label, Atlantic Records, to move up the release date of the album several months, to November 9th.

Cee Lo Green is an incredibly talented artist, and I couldn’t be more proud to represent him,” says Williams. “Cee Lo and I have known each other for over 15 years and over that time I’ve seen him grow monumentally as a performer. From the first time I saw him perform through today, I’m still utterly amazed each and every time I see him or listen to his music, and I’m so ecstatic to help bring his talent to the world.”

In addition to Cee Lo, Family Tree/Primary Wave Talent Management handles the careers of Big Sean (G.O.O.D. Music), Cody Simpson, the Trio Lords and Lady.

The Lady Killer is due in stores November 9th.

Group Enjoys Success After Brake from Altanic Records
Single “Tipsy in Dis Club” Is Number Two Most Added at R&R

Miami, FL – July 3, 2009 – Fresh on the heels of their split from Atlantic Records, Pretty Ricky has announced that they will not pursue another major label deal, choosing instead to release their new CD through their own indie label Bluestar Entertainment International, Inc.

The announcement comes just days after the group’s single, “Tipsy In Dis Club,” the first release from their self-titled third CD, was the number two most added song at R&R and third most added at Media Base.

Group member/producer and Bluestar President Diamond Blue Smith said the success of the single, which is “blowing up the same way it would if it was released by a major,” is due to the group’s grassroots marketing approach and the support of their loyal fan base. “We’ve been hitting all the cities, all the DJs, all the little clubs. When we were signed with a major, we never had the opportunity to hit the clubs.”

Diamond Blue says he and his fellow group members, Slick ‘em and Spectacular, look forward to “going back to basics” and introducing fans to their new member, Pittsburgh, PA native Lingerie.

Diamond says a release date for “Pretty Ricky” will be announced in the coming weeks.
