Kid Cudi was arrested in June for possession of a controlled substance following an incident where he allegedly tore a woman’s apartment door off its hinges. It was later confirmed that he had cocaine on him and for the first time he is openly speaking out about his drug use. According to Cudi, he turned to cocaine to help him cope with some of the side effects of fame.
“People wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wasn’t prepared for a ’60 Minutes’ interview every time,” said Cudi to Complex. “Doing bumps [of Cocaine], I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down — it was the only way I could get through the day without people noticing I was doing it.”
After walking out of court, Cudi says it dawned on him that he was about “to piss it all away for some bullshit,” and that the public would now be looking at him like he was “some type of fucking crack head.” But the birth of his daughter helped him turn things around.
“She’s my best friend and she doesn’t even know it,” he said. “That’s why I always told myself I’m going to make these songs for my kids, so they can follow along and know my story, if something was ever to happen to me.”
In other news, Cudi’s Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager will be released later this year.
