Ice Cube Coaches Documentary On L.A. Raiders

Posted: Monday – November 30, 2009

Ice Cube is doing more than playing Monday morning quarterback with his newest endeavour as the director of a documentary on his hometown’s L.A. Raiders.

Cube has reportedly teamed up with ESPN to do the movie for their 30 for 30 documentary series in honor of their 30th anniversary.

Cube’s documentary, Straight Outta L.A., is said to be a visual presentation of the football team’s influence on California and their moved from Oakland to L.A. in the 1980’s.

“The music, lyrics and images that I created with N.W.A, as a solo artist and as an actor helped turn the Raiders into something more than a football team,” Cube said of his influence on the team’s infectious culture. “It’s been 21 years since we released Straight Outta Compton, but to this day, kids all over the world buy Raiders gear, imitate the “Gangster Rap” style and try to connect with the South Central L.A. vibe that we brought to the masses.”

While it has yet to be given an premiere date, the hour-long documentary is said to be making its way to the network sometime during the next few months.

In addition to Cube’s contribution, other directors chosen for the series include Peter Berg, Reggie Rock Blythewood, John Singleton, Morgan Freeman, and Steve James.
