Will Smith is preparing for a musical comeback, according to a new report.

Producer La Mar “Mars” Edwards confirmed he is working with “Big Willie” on a new record.

“We’re working on Will Smith, bringing him back,” the producer, who has worked with the Game and T.I. told hip hop magazine XXL. “That’s actually him on the other line right now. Snoop’s daughter, we just put out her first single. We’re doing the whole album. Mario wants me to do a mixtape with him, we’re working on that. I’m working on Ashanti. We’re just working on as much as possible.”

No further tidbits about Will’s return to the rap world were dropped.

Will’s last album, his fifth artist LP, “Lost and Found,” was released in 2005. Will’s big hits over the years included “Getting’ Jiggy Wit It,” “Miami” and “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”

The star is currently working on the next “Men In Black III,” which is due for release in 2012.

Nicki Minaj Says Rap Career Came By Accident, Wants To Be An Actress

Nicki Minaj took her unique rap flow all the way to the top of the pop music industry, but the Young Money First Lady recently revealed that music wasn’t her first career choice.

In fact, she says it happened by accident, and instead, wanted to become an actress initially.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sunday’s (June 5) MTV Movie Awards, Minaj explained that she has taken lessons, and plans to make her dream a reality following her upcoming tour with Britney Spears.

“I went to school to be an actress. I never expected to be a rapper. It just fell in my lap,” said the rapper. “I would like to get an acting gig. I hope that when I am done with the tour, I can go back and do some acting. That is my long-term goal.”

Her acting aspirations won’t be the typical transitions you see for a rapper/actor though. Nicki says she definitely won’t be doing any straight-to-DVD type releases that most rappers self-produce and release to their fans. She wants to be a player in Hollywood.

“I want to work with Will Smith, because he’s a very successful rapper-turned-actor and therefore a role model,” Minaj said. “And Tim Burton because I love his crazy imagination. He comes up with these characters that are just so fascinating and the costumes and just creates these whole worlds.”

As far as actual roles, and any movies she’s interested in, that remains unknown.

Jay-Z, Will Smith Comment On Willow Smith’s Deal With Roc Nation

Posted: Thursday – September 9, 2010

Jay-Z has confirmed that he has signed Will Smith’s daughter Willow to a new deal on his label, Roc Nation.

The rapper/mogul appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s show this morning and confirmed rumors that he snatched up Willow, whose song “Whip My Hair” has generated an instant buzz.

“We at Roc Nation are excited to work with Willow,” Jay-Z told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “She has an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious. It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age. Willow is about to embark on an incredible journey and we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of her career.”

Willow, 9, already has a career, having landed roles in I Am Legend and in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

“After meeting with several record companies, it was clear that Jay-Z, Ty Ty, Jay Brown and the Roc Nation staff was the unquestionable choice,” Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “Their passion for Willow combined with their boundless vision and artistic integrity made Roc Nation the perfect home for our little girl.”

According to Jay-Z, Willow’s advanced beyond her years and has a vision for her career in the music industry, despite only being nine. He noted that superstars like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder started their careers off young.

“I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded by a nine year old and I was like man that record’s a smash,” Jay-Z told Ryan Seacrest. “I believe in superstars. I believe on big records on superstars and I think she has both.”

Rap runs in the family’s blood.

In 1985, Will Smith started off as a rapper in known as The Fresh Prince, from the streets of Philadelphia, along with his partner DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Willow’s 12-year-old brother Jaden also raps on a song called “Never Say Never” with teen idol, Justin Bieber.

And their mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, front a hard rock band, Wicked Wisdom.

A release date for Willow Smith’s Roc Nation debut was not available as of press time.
