Snoop Dogg & Yo Gotti will take their talents over to the film world. The two rap stars will be featured in a new documentary entitled, Take Me To The River. The documentary will be narrated by Terrance Howard, as Snoop Dogg will executive produce the Martin Shore film.
Take Me To The River will be “celebrating the inter-generational and inter-racial musical influence of Memphis in the face of pervasive discrimination and segregation.”
The documentary was featured at SXSW, has received the 24 Beats Per Second Audience Award and was also screened at Bonaroo Music Arts & Film Festival, where it garnered positive reviews.
According to the film’s official press release, Take Me To The River ”brings multiple generations of award-winning Memphis and Mississippi Delta musicians together, following them through the creative process of recording a historic new album, to re-imagine the utopia of racial, gender and generational collaboration of Memphis in its heyday.”
Filmmaker Martin Shore commented on his goal of the film by saying the following, “I hope it leaves a lasting impression and shows the heart and soul of the great city of Memphis and of American music.”
The film will feature the likes of William Bell, Snoop Dogg, Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Lil P-Nut, Charlie Musselwhite, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Yo Gotti, Bobby Rush, Academy Award winner Frayser Boy and The North Mississippi All-Stars. In addition to the film, it will be accompanied by album with tracks heard from the film.
The film will be out September 12th 2014.
