Drake Headlining Solo Tour this Spring (Tour Dates Included)

Posted: Wednesday – February 10, 2010

Drake, hip hop’s most hyped lyricist of the moment, will headline his first North American solo tour this spring.

According to his spokesperson, the Grammy Award nominated Lil Wayne-cohort will take fellow Canadian rapper K-OS and New York City based synth-pop band Francis & The Light out on ‘The Away From Home Tour,” starting April 5 in a city to be determined.

This marks the 23-year old’s first concert outing since tearing his ACL (knee ligament) while performing as part of Lil Wayne’s ‘Young Money Presents: America’s Most Wanted’ music festival last July.

He’s since had to endure knee surgery and undergo rehabiitiation and thereby took a brief hiatus from recording his eagerly anticipated debut album, which may finally see the light of day next month.

The upcoming 25-city tour is in tandem with The Campus Consciousness tour, hitting colleges & Universities across the country and promoting green technology. Not only will the former ‘Degrassi’ star’s tour bus use bio-diesel, but he’s also decided to adopt biodegradable and recyclable products on the bus and backstage.

Drake has also vowed to make his tour rider agreement more eco-friendly.

Note-worthy stops are planned for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, as well as Bamboozle.

Drake Has The Mixtape Of The Year

Posted: Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Drake doesn’t even have a debut album and he is almost a household name, almost but the 23-year-old rapper is on the porch ringing the bell. All of Drake’s accomplishments in the last year, have come basically from his mixtape “So Far Gone.” Drake even made this years “MTV Hottest MCs In The Game” list. Now the Canadian rapper’s mixtape has made MTV’s mixtape daily “Mixtape of the Year.”

Songs like “Best I Ever Had” and “Successful” began picking up radio airplay, Drake began getting offers from just about every major label. Yet he elected to stay with Lil Wayne’s team and inked with their Young Money label, with distribution by the Universal powerhouse, which quickly released an altered version of the mixtape as an EP — and which has led to Drake receiving two Grammy nominations for “Best I Ever Had,” a song that was originally released on a mixtape! From the Net to the streets to the Grammy red carpet: Hands down, this is our mixtape of the year.

Drake Speaks on Jay-Z Collab for “Thank Me Later”

Posted: Thursday – December 10, 2009

“In the lane of “Forever”, but not really. It’s that type of triumphant feel. I’m excited about it.”

After only playing the hook for “Off That” for The Blueprint III, some fans were definitely off the track from Jay-Z’s album as they had expectations of an actual verse from rapper Drake.

As the rapper continues to finish up his debut album Thank Me Later, fans might have a second opportunity to actually hear the two rap back and forth for a track titled “Light Up”.

With the album being pushed back from its February release to March, Drake will have some more time to ensure that he makes that great first impression that everyone is anticipating from him since he created So Far Gone.

Catching up with Rap Up, the Young Money member spoke on his emotions towards the record and waiting on the green light from Jay.

“I actually did the record, with Jay-Z, last night in the studio. It’s crazy. I’m really, really excited about it. I just did it, I hope he likes it.”

The rapper seemed to have a lot of pressure going through his mind as he tried to craft the right record that would suit both artists and create the greatest possible outcome.

“It’s a special record. I woke up, cause at first I was like I don’t know what type of hook I wanted to do and I really wanted to make a rap record.”

With past gems such as “Best I Ever Had” and “Successful” and recent works with Alicia Keys on “Un-Thinkable”, the young sensation clearly has a knack for great music. Unfortunately for Drake, he has set the bar even higher for himself so hopefully he can reach it.

Lil Wayne’s ‘Rebirth’ Pushed Back…Again

Posted: Thursday – December 10, 2009

Lil Wayne is the latest in Hip-Hop to continue the trend of album push backs. Fans eager for a new Lil Wayne record will be thrilled to know that his rock debut, Rebirth, has been pushed back…once again.

As previously reported, the album was supposed to hit stores December 15 and reportedly as a double disc with his Young Money family. Those plans were scrapped however and the albums were set to be released separately.

Now unfortunately for stans of team Wayne, they’ll have to wait till February to cop the ambitious new project.

Followers of Lil Wayne know this is not the first time Rebirth has been shelved. Originally the album was set to hit stores in April but was then pushed back to May and then finally to its December 15 release.

His daddy, Baby confirmed the third push back for the project via Twitter. Baby confirmed that while Wayne’s project was on hold, the Young Money album was still set for a December release saying,

“Rebirth album pushback Feb. 1 YoungMoney cmin out Dec. 21 Yadig YM CMB”

Damn it’s looking like Rebirth might not ever come out…smh.

Is anyone upset about this? ANYONE?

No?

Me either.

Birdman Gives Words Of Advice For Lil Wayne

Posted: Thursday – December 3, 2009

“It’s about him right now. I got to deal with a situation I’ve never had to deal with in my life. It ain’t cool with me, but we have to live through it.”

Cash Money seems to be one of the last major labels still around even with the absence of former popular members Mannie Fresh and Juvenile. With Lil Wayne facing a possible year sentence there are questions of the future of Young Money.

Birdman recently spoke with the Associated Press about his latest album Priceless and advice that he has for his son Lil Wayne before he serves his time.

“To keep doing what he loves – music. That’s the only thing we’ve got. You take that away from us, we really don’t need to live. Music, that’s the only thing that gets the stress off your mind to make you feel better. It’s how good it sounds after you’ve done it. The enjoyment of it.”

Birdman says there won’t be a drought of music from Wayne while he’s away. “Of course. I don’t know how many. It’s up to him. It’s his world. My son is his own boss. Whatever he wants to do, we’ll back him up.”

Birdman compared their label to other labels on success. “Now I don’t see any top labels. I look around and see all those people who did it before me. To me, the labels, I don’t see no company with constant success with a clique. At some point, there was a lot of people doing this. It used to be crowded. I see a lot of people who have don’t it, and now don’t see them.”

NIVEA FINALLY DELIVERS LIL WAYNE BABY BOY!

Posted: Wednesday – November 18, 2009

Nivea, Lil'Wayne - Rap NewsLil Wayne is a proud Dad again over the weekend as R&B singer Nivea gave birth to his new son. This is Nivea’s forth child, her previous three were with her ex-husband singer-producer The-Dream. This is Wayne’s third known child, he has a 9 year old daughter and a son who Lauren London recently gave birth to [Previously: Lauren London Gives Birth to Lil Waynes Son] We do not have a name or any other details on the baby (no not Birdman Baby but an actual Baby), and who knows if Wayne has any either.

As he was off in Atlanta throwing a party for his current rumored girl and Young Money artist Shanell aka SNL (who happens to be D. Woods from Danity Kane’s Sister) It might seem odd for some people to of just had a son a few months ago and getting another one. Well dont worry there is a third on the way. “Two girls pregnant at the same time?” Tim Westwood said. “Congratulations.” Wayne responded “Three,” before clarifying his remark for Westwood, who thought the rapper meant he’d gotten three women pregnant at the same time. “I mean [I'll have] three sons,” he explained. When Wayne was asked if Nivea was expecting, he responded “yessir”.
