Recently, pop princess Rihanna sat down with MTV News to discuss her work with breakthrough female emcee Nicki Minaj, who’s much hyped-over debut album Pink Friday hits stores on November 23. According to Rihanna, the female-only collaboration occurred not once but twice — first on her 2009 album Rated R and again on her latest effort Loud, which also hits stores later this month.

“We did work together on music for [Loud] as well as [for] Rated R. It was the end of the album, but she was sending me these incredible songs,” Rihanna told MTV News of her work with Minaj.

“I wanted some up-tempo stuff from her that was kind of gangsta, but she sent me these ballads and they were beautiful and I couldn’t believe that it was a female MC writing these songs. She’s really talented and I want to work with her again.”

Currently, Minaj appears on Raining Men, a single that was recently leaked off Loud and features the self-proclaimed Black Barbie rapping in an adopted Caribbean accent. As for Rihanna’s work on Minaj’s Pink Friday, the Barbados-born beauty kept mum about the details.

“We also worked together on her album. I can’t say…actually, the reason I can’t tell you is because I don’t know the official title of the song. It might be Too Fly, I’m not sure if that’s the confirmed [title],” the pop star said. However, following the interview MTV confirmed that the track is simply called Fly.

Currently, Loud, which is scheduled for release on November 16, already has two popular singles to its name — Only Girl (In the World) and What’s My Name.

In a previous interview with MTV, Rihanna also confirmed that the new album will be much more upbeat than Rated R. “A lot has, I won’t say changed, but a lot has evolved since then,” she said. “A lot of growing up, a lot of responsibility in terms of taking control of my business and stuff like that.”

Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being will now be a full-length album as opposed to an EP like it was originally scheduled. Several of the tracks that were slated to be featured on Tha Carter IV will now be featured on the project, which is scheduled to be released on his birthday, September 27.

“I know once he got out [of jail] those songs would be so old to him,” said his manager, Cortez Bryant to SPIN magazine.

As for Tha Carter IV, it will no longer be released on the same day as Weezy’s release from prison in November as previously planned. The New Orleans MC, has been writing down lyrics, a first for him “since 2002 or 2003,” and soon after leaving Rikers he will start working on that LP.

“He’s going to probably start from scratch,” said Bryant. “I know how he records — he’s in the studio every single day. That’s his life.”

I Am Not A Human Being will feature collaborations with his Young Money label mates such as Nicki Minaj, Drake, Jay Sean, Tyga, Lil Twist and Jae Millz. The unfinished video for the title track leaked onto the internet a few days ago showcasing some of Weezy’s tattoos that apparently glow in the dark.

“It was his concept to shoot the black light, because that way the tats that he has, they glow in the dark,” said the video’s director David Rousseau to MTV News. “He came up with that idea. So really, the rest of the video was a springboard on that.”

Promoters Sued For False Drake/Ciara Concerts

Two promoters are being sued by an entertainment company after they failed to make good on their promises. 80’s Baby Entertainment say they paid Carlos Goodspeed and Jason “DJ J Rudd” Rudd a deposit with the understanding that they could secure rapper Drake and several other artists for two separate concerts but the two never delivered the superstar and then failed to return the deposit.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed on Monday (September 13), 80’s Baby first contacted Goodspeed back in March 2009. The company forked over $27,500 to bookCiaraPliesSoulja Boy, and Webbie for a Summer Jamconcert but was told later that Ciara had to back out. Goodspeed allegedly promised to return the deposit to the company once the R&B singer’s label refunded the money, however 80’s Baby never saw a dime.

The issue became bigger in July 2009, when the company decided they wanted to book singer Jamie Foxx through another promoter. They needed the deposit they paid Goodspeed for the new concert but still couldn’t retrieve the funds so they weren’t able to seal the deal.

The complaint, then fast forwards to December, when the company started working with a third party and this time they linked up with Rudd in the hopes of booking Drake. They paid a $20,000 fee and in the claim state that contract says that if the Young Money MC was a no-show, their deposit would be returned.

What they didn’t know though at the time was that Rudd and Goodspeed were linked and the money they gave to Rudd actually went into an account that Goodspeed controlled. Again they were misled and they have yet to see either of their deposits.

80’s Baby is accusing the two promoters of fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and theft of service and is seeking to recoup $50,000 and an undisclosed amount in damages.

Drake’s Free New York Concert Canceled

Posted: Friday – July 9, 2010

Things were being set in place to get Drake to perform in New York City’s Central Park in Mid-July as a part of a concert series by ABC’s Good Morning America but the gig has been cancelled amid concerns over security.

The New York Daily News reports that ABC decided against booking the Young Money MC for a July 16th show after the New York Police Department told the city’s Parks Department that the Parks’ security plan wouldn’t be able to handle the expected crowd.

“We were interested in having Drake perform, but he was never officially booked,” said an ABC spokesperson.

Drake attempted to perform in Manhattan earlier this year, but that concert was shut down by police after the audience got out of control. A larger than expected crowd attended the shindig and after the Feels Like Paper event got off to a late start fans began to throw chairs and riot.

“While the South Street Seaport and Paper Magazine were looking forward to a great kick-off concert for the summer season, our primary concern is always the safety of our guest,” said a rep from the Seaport.

“The on-site crowd had greatly exceeded safe capacity; was still rising and the show could no longer be presented in a safe atmosphere.”

ABC’s summer concert series has featured the likes of Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, and Alicia Keys in the past.

Jae Millz Arrested…Again

Posted: Wednesday – May 19, 2010

“This woman really just called the cops on me… But u in MY house.”

What happened to the good old days when a rapper was making headlines for their actual music and less about their exploits outside of the booth?

Since Jae Millz returned back into relevancy, the Young Money member has used 2009 and 2010 to showcase his hate towards certain unnamed XXL Freshman and run ins with the law.

The latest involved Millz being arrested on Tuesday as a result of an incident in his home in New York.

According to sources, the problem was a domestic dispute, but have Millz tell it, the problem was dealing with “illegal substances”,

“Its real weird how I got arrested 4 havin an illegal substance, but 80% of da holdin cell was in there cuz of chicks,” Jae Millz tweeted.

So, it makes things better that Millz is still getting arrested for drug charges? When does a person come to realize that getting caught for such charges is a bit juvenile?

With a new mixtape on the way, He Still Nasty, the rapper is expected to start shooting the visual for the first single on the upcoming tape, which will be dropping May 26.

Shanell Explains Signing To Lil Wayne’s Young Money

Posted: Tuesday – May 18, 2010

Young Money’s Shanell remembers her days before she got signed to a major label. After dancing backup for her sister and former member of Danity Kane, D. Woods, Shanell happened to run into singer/songwriter Ne-Yo who gave her the opportunity to show off her writing skills on their song Say It which appeared on his second album Because Of You.

“It was really a great learning experience. Ne-Yo listens to all different types of music. I know he sat me down one time and was like, ‘That’s great, but try to say all that in three lines.’ I was like ‘a challenge.’ So my writing has been influenced a lot by him.”

Shanell became attracted to Young Money after she felt the comforting atmosphere that Lil Wayne provided viewing her as both a writer and a performer.

“Wayne was kinda like, ‘You do this. Keep your music for yourself. You have the talent, I see what you do. You can come over here with Young Money and do what you do over here.’ Which was the best situation I can be in. My music is a little bit different. It’s not R&B, it’s not pop, it’s not rock, it’s not alternative. It’s a fusion of everything. A lot of labels don’t let you do that, but at Young Money, they let you do that.”

Shanell doesn’t expect to be releasing her debut album until sometime next year but until then fans can listen to her recently released mixtape titled Shut Up and Listen which displays a playful cover which is meant to symbolize the rumors of her and Lil Wayne being sexually involved.

“I’m trying to take a negative thing and make a positive. That’s another reason I put this mixtape out, because a lot of people haven’t heard what I do. It’s all these rumors flying, that’s all they hear. So it’s here, this mixtape is my baby, this is what I’ve been sitting in the studio every night working on. This is my baby. This is what I’ve been pregnant with for the past nine months. So we’re just trying to take a bad rumor and turn it into something positive.”
