Nicki Minaj Says Rap Career Came By Accident, Wants To Be An Actress

Nicki Minaj took her unique rap flow all the way to the top of the pop music industry, but the Young Money First Lady recently revealed that music wasn’t her first career choice.

In fact, she says it happened by accident, and instead, wanted to become an actress initially.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sunday’s (June 5) MTV Movie Awards, Minaj explained that she has taken lessons, and plans to make her dream a reality following her upcoming tour with Britney Spears.

“I went to school to be an actress. I never expected to be a rapper. It just fell in my lap,” said the rapper. “I would like to get an acting gig. I hope that when I am done with the tour, I can go back and do some acting. That is my long-term goal.”

Her acting aspirations won’t be the typical transitions you see for a rapper/actor though. Nicki says she definitely won’t be doing any straight-to-DVD type releases that most rappers self-produce and release to their fans. She wants to be a player in Hollywood.

“I want to work with Will Smith, because he’s a very successful rapper-turned-actor and therefore a role model,” Minaj said. “And Tim Burton because I love his crazy imagination. He comes up with these characters that are just so fascinating and the costumes and just creates these whole worlds.”

As far as actual roles, and any movies she’s interested in, that remains unknown.

Tupac’s Screenplay Set To Become Film

Tupac - Rap News, Hip Hop News, Rap Music NewsTupac’s 1995 screenplay was purchased by NStar Studios and will be made into a feature-length film. The name of the script is Live 2 Tell and it tells the story of a teenage drug lord and his difficulties trying to leave the world of crime.

Variety reports that the film was written during the rapper’s 11-month prison stint in 1995 for a weapons charge.

One of the producers of the film will be Preston Holmes, who has been linked to Tupac once before. He collaborated with Afenia Shakur, Tupac’s mother, on the 2003 documentary of her son entitled Resurrection. Afenia will also contribute to this film as she will be the executive producer.

Holmes already tried to acquire the rights to the script in 1995 while Tupac was behind bars, but due to circumstances it never worked out.

A representative for NStar Studios, Ivan Juzang, released an official statement: “This kid was a genius, and the net of it is, he was from this community, he knew the struggles these young people were dealing with, he’s able to talk to young people in 2011, 2012, the same way he was able to talk to young people in 1995.”

This $11 Million project is set to begin production in early 2012.

50 Cent Calls His Relationship With Jay-Z Strictly ‘Business’

50-cent-jay-z

Last year around this time, the ever controversial machine known to the masses as 50 Cent was busy sending disrespectful rhymes in the direction pointed at fellow New York rap superstar Jay-Z. For the past months the Queens native had been baiting the god MC on wax with the assistance of former Roc-A-Fella artist Beanie Sigel.

Following Jay And Eminem’s opening night of their “Home And Home” tour at Detroit’s Comerica Park, Fif and Jay-Z deaded their beef backstage after the two ran into each other.

“We got a chance to kick it for a minute,” 50 told MTV News. “I know people were interested in what that conversation was like. But they can ask Jay-Z. I take people’s actions as if it’s genuinely how they feel. I can only use what I saw you do as if that’s what you meant. I can’t understand what your motivation was prior to that.”

As things appeared to have taken a more peaceful route following the union, the G-Unit general may have just re-opened that can of worms. In a recent interview with MTV UK, Fif calls his relationship with Jay-Z “business” and says he uses it as leverage for his own interests.

“We don’t have those kinds of relationships” 50 declared. “These people are people I associate with. We are in the same business. We are not necessarily friends. We don’t call each other for no reason.”

“It’s not like we have something against each other to make us enemies,” Fiddy continued. “Me and Jay[-Z] will use each other. Repeatedly. For energy.

REVIEW: CAM’RON & VADO – Gunz N’ Butta

camron-and-vado-gunz-and-butta

Harlem, New York rappers Cam’ron and Vado recently dropped the studio album Gunz N’ Butta this month. For the past year, the duo released a few mixtapes to showcase the new rap crew, U. N., including the successful Boss Of All Bosses mixtape. Their official debut U.N. album was entitled Cam’ron & The U.N. Presents: Heat In Here, Vol. 1 and released in May 2010.

The chemistry between Cam and Vado make for a dope duo, the wordplay from each rapper is on point and the gutter, street sound is prevalent within the album’s production. Cam’ron is in his true form, effortlessly cocky and witty. His young protege Vado is just as boastful and braggadocios. On the track I Luv U, each rapper takes turns dropping bars over a classic “boom-boom-bap” beat. Don’t let the track title fool you, this track is definitely hardcore.

Cam’ron is usually the first voice we hear on each track, but on the party song We All Up In Here, Vado gets to spit first and is fabulously arrogant about his lush life and swagger. The track Monster Muzik gives us the classic sound of the original Dipset rap crew with a beat that represents New York’s grit. A part of me would have liked to have heard Juelz Santana bless this track, just once, for old time’s sake.

Mixtapes almost always sound better than the actual studio album. On this album, the duo managed to keep most of their street integrity while providing radio friendly tracks. I think that Gunz N’ Butta is just a tip off the iceberg of what’s to come. This album serves as a preview of what we can expect on upcoming solo projects from the U.N. artists. This album was a good effort and definitely deserves a listen.

REVIEW: MYA – K.I.S.S.

Kiss-Mya-610x610

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard something new from this R&B songstress, but Mya is back with her new album K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple). This upbeat record is full of goodies for the ears and has a variety of sounds for any listener. From the heart pounding beat bumping tracks to the sweet ballads, it will make it seem like Mya had never left.

The album begins with the title track K.I.S.S., immediately it draws you in with its catchy hook and sets the tone for the rest of the album. It is followed up by Rear View Mirror, which features Sean Paul, who provides his Reggae flair to this track that talks about moving on and not looking back.

The album has a lot of dance tracks that include Fabulous Life, Evolve, and Alive that almost put you in a carefree mood. These fun tracks with a techno beat will definitely have you ready to grab your friends and dance the night away. Mya blends these tracks with a couple of mid-tempo songs such as Before You Say Goodbye and Fugitive Of Love and add a nice balance between her up-tempo tracks and her ballads.

Speaking of ballads, the ones on this album remind us why we fell in love with Mya’s distinctive voice in the first place. Mr. Incredible, Love Comes and Love Goes, and Love Me Some You, which features Marques Houston, slow the album down a bit and is a nice break to hear her voice singing those high notes. The album ends with the Dawty Remix version of Fabulous Life, which basically sums up the album.

Overall, it’s a high energy party record with beautiful ballads that will undoubtedly give every listener just what they are looking for. This is very good album for Mya to come back on because it’s giving all of her fans exactly what they’ve have been waiting for.
