Eve Talks Stripper Life & How Mase Saved Her

Posted: Thursday – June 17, 2010

Female raptress Eve tells about her encounter with former Bad Boy rapper Mase who encouraged her to stop stripping and start rapping.

According to Mahogany Cafe, Eve stopped attending class and barely graduated high school. Once her mother remarried, she moved to New York and started working as a dancer in a Bronx strip club where she initially met Mase. He encouraged her to stop dancing and start rapping on a professional level.

Eve spoke to VH1 on an episode of Behind The Music about her chat with Mase in the 90’s. “He came into the club and looked at me and literally was like, ‘What’s your name?’ And I gave him every stripper name under the sun! I was like, ‘I’m Ginger, I’m Sassy!’ He was like, ‘Why don’t you go get dressed, let’s go just talk.’ And we did, we talked throughout the night. He was like, ‘You’re really talented. What are you doing? You know you’re not supposed to be here. You know it.’ It was a confirmation for me that all these thoughts, all this sadness. All these times that I wake up in the morning, I’m like, ‘Why do I feel like this?’ And I know I’m not supposed to be there. It just woke me up,” Eve states, realizing that she might have never explored her lyrical talents any further if it weren’t for former Bad Boy recording artist.

Eventfully, Eve was able to attain a meeting which turned into an audition with Dr. Dre and she signed a one-year deal with Dre’s new label Aftermath. With limited publicity and guidance, Eve’s one year contract had ended before she knew it and along with the new label she was lost. Unfortunately she didn’t have the opportunity to began crafting an album, but she was able to link up with DMX which was a great foot forward for her new career as Ruff Ryder’s first lady, and Eve recorded her first album, Ryde or Die, Vol. 1, via Interscope Records.

Although Eve just completed her third album with Interscope, they have decided to end their relationship with her — she was recently dropped from the label.

In a recent interview with VIBE, she explains what happened and how she was dropped. “Interscope was stupid because they didn’t drop me at first, they just shelfed me, and dropped the ball. After Tambourine, they straight up were like, ‘Umm, yeah, nah, we’re not putting out the record.’ After that I was like, ‘Y’all gotta let me go. I’ve been here 11 years and you’re fronting on me?’ It got to that point… They promised me the machine. The machine is basically the roll out. It’s ‘Yo, when ‘Flirt’ comes out, we’ll give you this, we’ll give you that. And that’s what made me mad. It’d be different if we didn’t have a meeting where people promised me sh*t. If they were just like, ‘Oh we’re going to put the album out and see what happens,’ that would be one thing… But they were like, ‘No, we’re making sure this happens, it’s coming out on this date.’ It was concrete. But it’s all good, everything happens how it’s supposed to, when it’s supposed to.”

Eve’s album, Here I Am, which featured the hit single Tambourine, was scheduled to come out in 2007, but was shelved by her then-label home Interscope. The album will reportedly feature a song with Akon and she has added Kelly Rowland to her wish list of people to work with on the project.

Snoop Dogg Banned From Performing in Dutch City

Posted: Thursday – June 17, 2010

Snoop Dogg has been banned from performing at a free concert taking place at The Hague in the Netherlands next weekend.

Snoop Dogg was slated to play at the Parkpop festival on June 27th, but a coalition of police and justice ministry officials led by the Mayor of the Dutch city of Hague are protesting the rapper’s appearance.

Police have asked organizers to find a suitable replacement for Snoop Dogg with just ten-days left until the concert takes place.

“This is all very annoying that the headliner is being removed from the programme 10 days before the event,” a spokeswoman for organizer Ducos Productions told ANP-Reuters.

According to the Mayor, Snoop has been banned in order to maintain the “open and friendly atmosphere” of the family-oriented festival.

Other performers slated to hit the stage during Parkpop include Nick Lowe, Alphabeat and Nena.

Drake Says He Has To Prove Himself Before Andre 3000 Collaboration

Posted: Wednesday – June 16, 2010

Andre 3000 is one of the rappers that went on Drake’s collaboration wish list for his debut album, Thank Me Later, but a verse from 3 Stacks is noticeably absent from the LP, which is loaded with big-name features.

Explaining why Dre didn’t make the cut to VIBE, Drake said that the emcee, who is one half of rap duo Outkast, would like him to prove himself before they jumped on a track together.

“I really tried to do a song with Andre 3000, but I think it was meant for my second album,” reasoned Drake. “Dre is one of those people that needs you to do a little more. He’s one of those people that believe in his craft so much that he needs you to do more than just be over hyped or just famous. In his mind, I have to prove myself and truth is, I do. That’s just being real. I have a lot of work to do, so I actually respect him for that.”

Drake also said that for his next album, which will reportedly be titled Moments, he will have a lot less features. “I think on the second album I’ll probably only have two features. I have a few people in mind and Dre probably will be one of them,” he added.

The Canadian rapper’s first major label effort, Thank Me Later, was released online and in stores yesterday (June 15). Expectations are high and industry estimates place first week sales in the 500,000 range.

Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. have reunited for the first time in history, at Madame Tussauds in Washington, D.C. today (June 16th).

The life-like wax figures are being displayed all summer starting today, on what would have marked Tupac’s 39th birthday.

“Tupac and Biggie are widely recognized as two of the greatest Hip-Hop artists and rappers of all time,” a rep for Madame Tussauds said in a statement. “Their influence on and absence from the Hip-Hop community can still be felt today – more than a decade after their tragic deaths.”

The Tupac Shakur statue is from the Madame Tussauds wax museum in Las Vegas, while The Notorious B.I.G.’s figure is on loan from the museum in New York.

Both wax figures were created with the participation and approval of Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur and B.I.G.’s mother, Voletta Wallace.

The two wax figures are on display at Madame Tussauds’ Glamour Room, in Washington D.C.

Suge Knight’s Valuables Sold At Auction

Posted: Monday – February 22, 2010

Suge Knight‘ problems with money and bills are continuing to add up.

As previously reported, Suge was set to be taken to court by one of the mothers of his children who allege that he owed her for back child support payments.

Now however several of Suge’s personal items have been sold at auction to pay for an outstanding storage bill.

The owner of Conejo Valley Moving & Storage Joe Furmidge held the auction Saturday in an effort to recoup the missing money.

Furmidge’s auction was widely successful making $4,500 dollars in 30 minutes off Suge’s property including furniture, clothing, appliances and gym equipment.

A large picture of Suge and Tupac was sold for $100.

This is not the first time Suge has seen many of his items sold at an auction.

In 2009 items from Death Row’s catalog including unreleased recordings and various award show trophies were sold to the highest bidder.

Some of Knight’s personal items including his underwear were sold as well.

In August he put his Los Angeles mansion up for sale after filing for bankruptcy.
