B.o.B. Producers Sued Over “Airplanes”

A songwriter named Christine Dominquez has filed a lawsuit against producers Kinetics and One Love over the hit single Airplanes, which went on feature southern rapper B.o.B. and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.

In the civil complaint, Dominquez claims that she co-wrote the track with the production duo, whose real names are Jeremy Dussolliet and Tim Sommers, but never received compensation or credit for her work.

She was contacted by the two back in 2008 about writing Airplanes and they even recognized her contributions on a less successful alternate version of the single that was released in 2009, but they didn’t give her any credit for the B.o.B. hit, which was released a year later. A remix version of the track was also released featuring Eminem, she wasn’t credited for that either.

“In a transparent effort to keep all the credit and earnings for themselves despite Dominguez’s substantial contribution to the joint work, defendants omitted her from the listing as the author of Airplanes on the 2012 release and elsewhere,” reads the suit. “Nor have the defendants accounted to Dominguez for revenues derived, either from the 2010 release, or any other source.”

Dominquez is suing for unfair competition and copyright infringement, amongst other charges. B.o.B. is not targeted in the lawsuit.

    Wayne is talented. But the prlebom I have is his consistency. Compare it to artwork. If I created 100 pieces, but only 10 were real quality, would you respect my work? He will jump on anyone’s track for a price, mumble something over autotune, have his crew tell him it’s dope, and make $100,000. Didn’t he say that he would even charge his sister that much for a verse?Now there are a few tracks that I enjoy, and I respect his work ethic. But before I listen to a new track from him, I assume it’s going to be terrible. He doesn’t represent quality. If the track is actually good I’m surprised. The dude just needs to put all that effort in making 10 tracks into making one great song.And I guess, my main prlebom is with the Academy board, for even considering this song for “rap” of the year?! C’mon….Lupe’s Superstar got serious radio play, great lyrics, beat, the whole package, even a remix with Jeezy and Tip…but no dice. Zero love for the Grammy’s.
