Embattled rapper DMX’s legal troubles may be over for now, it seems.

A source close to the rapper told exclusively that a Mariposa County, Arizona judge will dismiss the most recent charges brought against the rapper this week.

Speaking under condition of anonymity, the source said that as a result of the plea deal DMX accepted on Tuesday (June 2), the judge presiding over the case is set to dismiss the charges of felony attempted aggravated assault to which he pleaded guilty.

The charges stem from an alleged altercation between DMX, born Earl Simmons, and guards at the Tent City Jail in Arizona during his last stint in jail.

While serving a 90-day sentence for animal cruelty, drug and fraud related charges, DMX is accused of having verbally threatened guards at the facility. DMX was release from the Tent City Jail on May 14.

A week later he was seen out and about during the entertainment industry’s annual convergence on Miami, Florida for Memorial Day Weekend, where he spoke openly about his plans on getting back to the music.

According to the source, X May return to Miami following his court appearance on Monday morning.

50 Cent Settles Mansion Lawsuit

Posted: Friday – June 05, 2009 @ 3:31 PM

Queens mogul 50 Cent has reached a settlement today (June 5) in his multi-million dollar lawsuit against an engineering company over incorrect mansion repair estimates.

50, real Curtis Jackson, enlisted BVH Integrated Services to conduct a thorough home inspection in 2003, prior to his purchase of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson’s 48,000 square foot, 52 room mansion.

According to the suit, the company estimated 50’s total repairs to be $500,000.

But after purchasing the Connecticut property for $4 million, 50 claimed his total repairs to upgrade the Farmington mansion cost him a total of $6 million.

Along with the accused, inaccurate estimate, 50 testified that he paid the firm $14,000 for their services.

Throughout the dispute, officials for BVH have denied any wrongdoing.

In their testimony, the firm argued that despite the property’s size, it was not “mansion-quality.”

BVH also stated 50’s $6 million dollar “repairs” were not regular home issues, but lavish upgrades that would be not be accounted for in a routine home inspection.

However, the company’s vice president did admit that their figure could have been inaccurate due to the low time period they had to conduct a preliminary estimate.

“It’s as helpful as it can be at that stage of the project,” BVH Vice President Greg Van Deusen told Connecticut’s Eyewitness News.

At press time, the terms of the settlement have not been made public.

50 Cent has been attempting to sell the high-priced mansion since 2007.

After dropping the price from $18.5 to $14.5 million, the G-Unit CEO finally removed the home from the market this week due to lack of interest.

Hours before the LA Lakers would go on to claim victory over the Orlando Magic in game one of the 2009 NBA Finals, Lil’ Wayne made it very clear who he was rooting for.

The Multi-platinum rapper and blogger released a new song on Wednesday night (June 3) simply titled “Kobe Bryant.”

The new track opens with sound bites attesting to Kobe’s domination of the game, starting with Bryant expressing how he is driven by his desire to be the best. Throughout the song,

Wayne praises the Lakers superstar, calling him “King Bryant” and drawing comparisons between themselves.

Obviously having picked up some verbiage from the guys at ESPN, Weezy addresses everything from Bryant’s crossover and jumper.

In one line, Lil’ Wayne even foreshadowed the results of last night’s match up, rapping “I drop 40 on your double team.”

Bryant contributed 40 points to the Lakers’ 100-75 victory over the Magic on Thursday (June 4).

In related news, 2K Sports revealed Thursday that Bryant will grace the cover of the 10th Anniversary edition of the popular NBA 2K franchise.

The announcement was made Thursday night in an exclusive Spike Lee TV ad, offering suggestions for better cover athletes and finally concluding that there is no better choice than the 11-time All-Star.

“It’s quite obvious why 2K Sports put Kobe Bryan on the cover of NBA 2k10, which is the best NBA video game,” commented Lee.

2K Sports is inviting fans to participate in the release, by having them vote for the official box cover.

The sport publishing arm of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. has created a dedicated voting site at, which offers fans a selection of four covers, including one featuring Bryant in a New York Knicks uniform, as suggested by die-hard Knicks Fan Lee in the new ad.

“I’ve been playing sports video games for as long as I can remember and honestly, I’ve never seen one come so close to replicating real basketball,” Bryant says. “What 2K Sports has done is truly incredible and I’m proud to be a partner with them and on the cover of NBA 2K10. 2K Sports is constantly improving and adding something new to their game every year that makes them better and better, and that’s exactly what I try to do each season with my game. It’s as if 2K Sports has been on a sports video game championship run for several years now, and I’m not even sure there’s a word for that kind of dominance.”

Voting for the final NBA 2K10 cover is open through June 15. The winning artwork will be revealed on June 16.

The Kobe will continue his quest for his fourth NBA Championship with the Lakers on Sunday, when they face the Orlando Magic at the Staples Center in LA.

Necro Fined For Assault In Australia

Posted: Friday – June 05, 2009 @ 9:16 AM

Brooklyn rapper Necro was fined $3000 for an altercation in Australia which ended with a man suffering a fractured cheekbone.

Necro, real name Ron Raphael Braunstein, was in the country as part of his current international tour.

While waiting outside of a café in the city of Perth, the rapper was accosted by an aggressive man over allegations of reckless eyeballing.

Necro’s defense lawyer claimed the unidentified man said to his client: “What the f**k are you looking at?!”

Allegedly, Necro attempted to diffuse the situation before it became violent.

“What’s your problem,” the Psycho+Logical Records CEO replied. “I am not looking at you but I can look at who I f**king want.”

After the man stood up to possibly make the dispute physical, Necro punched him several times before entourage member Christopher Catenacci jumped in and inflicted further damage.

Authorities were called by eyewitnesses, and both men were arrested at their hotel.

The timing of the apprehension and fining sentence resulted in Necro’s Hyde Park Hotel concert being cancelled.

At press time, Necro is scheduled to perform tonight in Adelaide before finishing up international dates in New Zealand and Norway.

Necro’s last studio album was the 2007 metal/Hip-Hop hybrid LP Death Rap.

Trillville's Don P. Introduces 'Rave Rap' With Polow Da Don

Posted: Thursday – June 04, 2009 @ 5:02 PM

Rapper/producer Don P has enlisted the support of Polow Da Don in crafting his first major release as a solo artist.

The Trillville front man revealed to exclusively that he is joining Polow’s Zone 4, Inc. imprint and prepping the release of his debut album, Global Warning.

Between the 2004 release of Trillville’s shared debut Kings of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil’ Scrappy and their 2008 follow up, Straight Up. No Chaser, Don P released two solo mixtapes, Target Practice and Target Practice 2, with the support of DJ Scream.

He also established himself as one of the South’s young producers to watch. Ironically, the relationship that brought him to Zone 4, Inc. was in fact built around production.

“Me and Polow always been cool,” Don P told “I always go to him and try to sell beats to his artists. He always bought beats from me. And I was like, you know what, f**k that. I’m cool with the beats, but I’m about to crank this s**t back up. So I gave Polow a couple of my solo tracks that I did and he was f**kin’ wit it. He said it one time, and it was small talk. And the small talk grew into real talk. Cuz he was really feeling what I was doing. And that’s when he was like, ‘Let’s get everybody on the horn and let everybody know we ‘bout to collaborate.’ It’s gon’ be a massive project.”

Global Warning promises to be a departure from what Don P’s fans have come to expect from him.

However, the album will fit in with Polow’s eclectic portfolio, which includes hits records by Pop/R&B divas Ciara, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger and Mya, as well as Hip-Hop stars Ludacris, Birdman, Rich Boy, Nelly, Snoop Dogg and Young Buck.

The album will introduce a genre-melding sound which Don P has branded “Rave Rap.”

“I’ve always been a rave fan,” Don P explained. “We spent a lot of time in Germany and I really fell in love with the Rave s**t. A lot of my beats are Rave-based, but the thing is about what I do is that I add bass to it. So it’s a Rave sound, but the Hip-Hop comes with the bass and the snare. Basically it’s for all the people that work hard all day and who just like to let loose at the end of the day.”

Don P is currently prepping the release of his first solo single, “Money All The Time,” which borrows from Eddie Murphy’s 1985 hit single “Party All The Time.”

He also continues to enjoy the success of the latest release in the Target Practice series, which hit internet retailers in May.

He is also back in the studio recording with Trillville.

A release date for Global Warning has yet to be announced.

VH1 Hip-Hop Honors To Celebrate Def Jam

Posted: Thursday – June 04, 2009 @ 1:45 PM

While this year’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors ceremony will mark six years since VH1 started the annual tradition of celebrating the best in Hip-Hop culture, it will mark two firsts as well.

VH1 has announced that this year’s award ceremony, to be held on Tuesday, October 12, will pay homage to Def Jam Records in recognition of the legendary label’s 25th anniversary.

This year will also mark the star-studded event’s departure from the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, relocating to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York.

30 Rock star and Saturday Night Live alum Tracy Morgan will reprise his role as host for the third consecutive year.

Former Yo! MTV Raps host Fab 5 Freddie and author/filmmaker Nelson George will also continue to serve as the program’s executive producers.

In previous years, the VH1 Hip Hop Honors have celebrated the accomplishments and contributions of pioneering artists including KRS-One, Public Enemy, Sugarhill Gang, Big Daddy Kane, Ice-T, Ice Cube, Rakim, Cypress Hill and MC-Lyte.

Through interviews with the honorees and their peers and tribute performances by newer artists, the program has simultaneously allowed the original Hip-Hop generation to reminisce while introducing the next generation to those who paved the way.

Each year, the VH1 Hip Hop Honors has also recognized iconic films, movies and individuals who helped to mold the culture, from the graffiti movement, honored in 2004, to R&B great Isaac Hayes, who was celebrated last year just two months after his untimely death.

However, 2009 will mark the first time a record label is commemorated.

“It is impossible to pay tribute to the best in Hip-Hop without recognizing Def Jam Records,” says VH1’s EVP of Music Production Lee Rolontz. “Throughout the years VH1 has honored numerous artists from the Def Jam label, but due to the magnificent impact that Def Jam as a company has made on not only Hip-Hop culture but pop culture as a whole, we thought they definitely deserved the opportunity to be honored.”

With Def Jam serving as this year’s top honoree, the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors promises not only a gathering of the bonafide superstars who have come to represent the label, either in the studio, like Public Enemy, Kanye West, Rick Ross and Rihanna; or in the office as Rick Rubin, Russell Simmons, LA Reid and Jay-Z have done.

In addition to Def Jam’s musical legacy, VH1 Hip Hop Honors will also celebrate the Hip-Hop brand’s impact on comedy, spoken word, fashion and pop culture in general.

Additional details about the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors, including performers, presenters, specific honorees and related programming will be made available later this summer at
